Small successes have a big impact

One of my littlest students is the child of a friend. He’s quiet and observant and doesn’t often participate in class. But on this day, he was engaged and participatory.  I like to reward the kids who work hard by letting one kid choose which version of our ABC songs we’ll do: a fast one or slow one. Today, my little friend was the one who got to choose. He’s not super verbal yet, but when I showed him the signs for “fast” or “slow” his eyes lit up and he signed “slow” and “please” (awwww). And he signed almost the entire alphabet with us – pretty awesome for a 2.5 year old!
